Some of you might already know who these people are, most probably don’t. These are Johnny Earle’s a.k.a. Johnny Cupcake’s Parents. Meeting them during the opening of Johnny’s London shop was probably one of the best experiences of the entire trip for me. Getting to speak with them and ask questions about the pre-cupcake Johnny made me realize that they, as a family, weren’t so different from others I know. It brought the experience that much closer to home.
Hearing about how Johnny started up with his band “On Broken Wings” and how his dad helped support them on their outset by purchasing the group some of their early equipment. Learning these little details of someone else’s life, and connecting the dots to your own experience as a young adult trying to find your way in this life. It made me realize it isn’t always about one’s own drive. The right support structure needs to be in place. In most cases that support begins at home. I’ve gotten to experience what that support structure is like and I’ve known people without that support for what they’d like to accomplish. I can honestly say I feel sorry for the folks I’ve met that haven’t had the real opportunity to say “This is what I’d like to try” and have the full support of their family & friends. It makes me appreciate what I’ve had all along. I am grateful for my parents and their undying support for my reckless abandon and oftentimes willingness to throw caution to the wind and just do what I want. I appreciate them everyday for allowing me to grow up as ME. I respect them for when they’ve said “No” and I Love them for when they’ve “Yes”. With Mother’s & Father’s day coming soon, I’d like to take this opportunity to give them a small token of my appreciation and THANK my parents for being who they are and always supporting who I am.
